By Rube Ambler
Attention System first found their way into our inbox courtesy of the band’s bass player, Chris Edmunds. When they finally got their record together, Wait For My Signal, the good folks at Surrounded By Light Recordings dropped a copy in the mail for us. We gave them a quick note for their CD release party at the Drunken Unicorn, but really had only spun the disc once before then. We’ve given it a few more rotations now and it feels like a good time for a couple words about it.
What Chris and his pals are doing is really much more modern than all that. Attention System is a great record for people who, sort of like us, wanted very much to like the most recent efforts from the Killers (too damn stupid) and Muse (too damn silly) but just plain didn’t. In fact, Attention System fits well in the same sonic landscape as those two bands but with better delivery in almost every facet of the recording. I think almost every song on this record could have been a single in the days of heavy rotation MTV music videos. Those days are gone unfortunately (I guess), but Attention System is not. It well worth your time to track down this record and try to catch them the next time they play in town.
Your next chance to catch Attention System locally may be June 30 at the North River Tavern.
