Rachael Maddux of Paste recently offered up a list of Sneaky Spy Songs. It’s a good list based on song titles and band names but it left off my all time favorite sneaky spy song. Though in fairness, my selection has a lot more to do with the video than the name of the song (which is sorta sci-fi) or the name of the band (which is sorta pirate-y).
As a child of my age I remember when videos moved music and made big artists huge (MTV even used to play them). They were hardly cinematic works of art but many were iconic. Ever wonder why everybody wants to reenact Thriller? Because it’s awesome, that’s why.
This is one of my favorites and yes, I know the (censored) topless shot and cheesy dancing girls during the guitar solo are a little gratuitous, but c’mon I was (nearly) prepubescent when it came out. I still shamelessly love it.
