Let’s be upfront here. New Year’s Eve is not really our thing. But we know it’s a big night out for a lot of folks and a boon to teenage babysitters everywhere. We’ll be taking in our celebration a night early with Band of Horses, which is an NYE option only if you’re willing to pay the scalpers premium. Likewise, with the Black Lips at the EARL.
UPDATE: There will be a limited ticket release for the Black Lips show at 10:00 am on Tuesday, Dec. 29 only through Ticket Alternative. Limit 2 per order.
We haven’t cleared all of these for sell outs or even pre-sale availability, but here are some choices if you are looking for a live music option this New Year’s Eve.

Our top choice for value and fun would have to be Judi Chicago and Noot D’Noot at the Drunken Unicorn for an easy $10 in advance.
A close second under the same criteria is Gentleman Jesse and His Men at East Atlanta’s 529 for $5.
There’s always Smith’s Olde Bar who will be hosting The Modern Skirts for $15 (advance).
Gringo Star, The Judies and The Coathangers will be at Star Bar for only $10.
This Piano Plays Itself, Abby Go Go, and Sealions will be at Highland Inn Ballroom for a modest $8.
That’s about where what we might call value ends, but there are other options for other tastes too. Here are some of those.
The Masquerade is only asking $10 to get into all the rooms there. Nashville Pussy will be playing in one of them.
Michelle Malone Banned will be at Eddie’s Attic, $30 each or a table for $150.
The Variety Playhouse will be open for all ages with Perpetual Groove on stage. Over 21 $25 adv, under 21 $27.50 adv.
If you want a big show and a big crowd, you can head to Philips Arena for Widespread Panic – that ticket clocks in $51.50 before you pay Ticketmaster.
Another big ticket without quite as big a name can be had at Blind Willie’s for hardcore blues fans. Sandra Hall & Houserocker Johnson will be playing for you if you want to part with $50 in advance.
