SCHEDULE UPDATED AS OF SEPTEMBER 14.
[[ UPDATE Sept. 11: There is nothing better than getting lucky (we try to do it at least once a week) and that's sorta what happened to the Other Sound folks. It also helps if you have great sponsors like Criminal Records (which they do too). So the lucky part is that superstars Yo La Tengo are now confirmed as playing for FREE at 4:00 on Saturday afternoon at Criminal Records during the festival, but do the right thing and buy a ticket for the Other Sound Festival shows at Star Bar or buy the quite cool Other Sound 2009 Sampler CD - both are only $10. It's just another reason to head for L5P on Saturday. The original post follows... ]]
Put this date on your calendar- September 19. If you go to one live music event this year, this is it – The Other Sound Festival. Think of it as Cash for Rockers. For a recession busting $10 you can see twenty (that’s 2-0) of Atlanta’s best bands all in one day and nearly all in one place. Trade me in baby.
In year five of The Other Sound Festival, this local label boosting crew has hit their stride. Some of our favorite Atlanta bands are playing this year. A great cross section of sounds – folk rock to dance rock to electronic to hip-hip – will be represented. Twenty bands, four stages, two blocks, one neighborhood, one day.
It starts early enough with a 2pm performance not to be missed by Today the Moon, Tomorrow the Sun who will deliver dance rock to make the Yeah, Yeah, Yeah’s jealous. They will be followed by Savannah’s own Dare Dukes on the outdoor stage at 3:00. Give yourseld time to grab a nice brew at Porter Beer Bar before you take a left on Moreland Ave. and head to the Star Bar for a PBR and Club Awesome.
The Wild will be playing downstairs there at midnight but it will be hard to tear yourself away from The Selmanaires on the main stage and the anticipation that naturally occurs before any line up that closes out with Judi Chicago. Wow.
It’s all day long, so bring your boots (or whatever you need to stay on your feet for hours of great music). One day only – September 19 – The Other Sound – Little Five Points.
