As we write this we are only hours away from It is now 9/9/09, the release date of the Remastered Beatles Box Set. This is a pretty big deal. Even hipters deluxe, Pitchfork, saw fit to review only Beatles albums today (as if we really need them to tell us that it’s okay to love A Hard Day’s Night).
Some have speculated that this may be the last great compact disc release. But will it? Apple has an iTunes press conference scheduled for tomorrow today (1:00 EST) and, in the kind of hyper- meta- reporting that can only happen in the age of the blog, MSNBC reports that SkyNews reported, then retracted, statements from Yoko Ono that the Beatles have finally come to terms with Apple to publish their songs on iTunes. We’re just doin’ what bloggers do…repeating speculation and fueling rumors (but we do it because it makes us feel like real internet journalists when we do).
We’ll just have to wake up tomorrow wait through the morning, fire up the Mac and see what happens. However, if you’re still interested in the actual box set, check out our pals at Decatur CD or Criminal Records…Amazon is already sold out.
