2009 National Book Award Winners Announced

Book AwardWe were following the awards dinner on Twitter to get the scoop.  Yep folks, that’s how social media is remaking reporting (as if what we do here could be confused with real reportage). The results for all four categories are in, so here you go.  Enjoy.

The 2009 National Book Award Winners are:

Fiction: Let the Great World Spin by Colum McCann

Non-Fiction: The First Tycoon: The Epic Life of Cornelius Vanderbilt by T. J. Stiles.

Poetry: Transcendental Studies: A Trilogy by Keith Waldrop

Young People’s Literature: Claudette Colvin: Twice Toward Justice by Phillip Hoose

In addition to the four traditional categories, the National Book Foundation honored Gore Vidal (an A-List favorite) for his Distinguished Contribution To American Letters, and granted the Literarian Award to Dave Eggers.

Congratulations to all of the winners.  Now go out and get those books.
