Day Jobs: Lille

By Matt Jarrard

This is the second installment in a series profiling local musicians and their day jobs. I always find myself at concerts thinking: “Hmmmm…I wonder what he/she does from 9-5?” So, I’m going to start asking that question… and so far the answers have been pretty interesting. If there’s anyone you’d like for me to ask, be sure to let me know….and I’ll go ask them!

Grace Bellury of Lille

Whats your day job?

I am a hostess/busser for a cafe bistro in Decatur called Carpe Diem.

Oh really…so what is it that you ACTUALLY do?

I have to look cute, be welcoming, and tell people where to sit. sometimes I have to clean up their mess after they leave.

What’s your favorite part about your day job?

The people I get to work with, and the people I get to meet. A lot of the servers are fellow musicians, artists, photographers. An older couple comes in every Sunday morning for brunch, they were engaged at the restaurant. They know everyone by name and they told me they’re going to adopt me.

Least favorite?

Restaurants make money on weekends and holidays, so i’m always working when i’d rather be at concerts and art shows and Christmas parties. Bummer!

Would you quit if you could afford to?

Well, yes. Working at a restaurant forever is not a particular dream of mine. It’s an experience everyone should have once in their lives, though. Tip your waitresses, seriously!
