Decatur’s own Little Shop of Stories will be hosting its Catch-All Book Group on Monday, October 12 at 7PM.  This month they will be discussing Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close by Jonathan Safran Foer.  Just a note of explanation, Little Shop holds book groups for children and young adults of all ages, along with their Guys Who Read book group, which is, y’know…for guys who read.  The Catch-All (co-ed, post-college, pre-babies) book group is there to catch all of us (get it?) who are a little too old for the young adult books (even though we wish we weren’t), but are disqualified from the Guys Who Read book group for (hopefully) obvious reasons.  It is open to all genders and ages, and meets right at Little Shop the second Monday of every month.

Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close is a tale of a young man coping with the loss of his father, who perished in the September 11th attacks.  However, this is not a book about a normal 9 year old.  Told through the eyes of this increadibly bright child, one easily forgets that their narrator is pre-pubescent.  A friend of mine may have described this book best:  “I wish I had read it in college, because I really need to talk to people about it.”  It is exactly that kind of book, and I am looking forward to hearing everyone’s opinions about it at Little Shop.
