Author Appearance: Larry Tye, May 14 at Jimmy Carter Presidential Library

Larry Tye will be discussing his biography of the baseball legend Satchel: The Life and Times of an American Legend. Tye’s research of this Baseball Hall of Famer included interviews with more than 200 Negro League players many of whom were Paige’s competitors and foils during the prime years of his baseball career.

Paige was not only among the finest pitchers of his generation (bar none), he was also imminently qoutable. We expect Mr. Tye’s work will be sprinkled with some of his most famous. One of our favorites attributed to Paige is about Negro League speedster Cool Papa Bell: “Once he hit a line drive right past my ear. I turned around and saw the ball hit his ass sliding into second.”

Meet Mr. Tye and find out what he can tell you about the great Satchel Paige on Friday night, at 7pm at the Jimmy Carter Presidential Library.
