Week of Royalty (The Dutchess and The Duke)

It is with great pleasure and sincere modesty that we herald the arrival of The Dutchess and the Duke in our fair city.   This inventive, emotional and talented duo will be visiting Decatur CD for a free, live, in-store performance on Wednesday, December 16 at 5pm.  They are often accompanied by two or more collaborators (barons?) and if they all show up, it will be a full house of musicians. We’re hoping for a full house either way.

We’ve been posting lists lately (best of the year, best of the decade), so it seems fit to post a list of reasons to stop by Decatur CD on Wednesday night around 5.

1. Decatur CD is a great place to buy new & old CDs. Christmas is coming y’know.

2. You will get to see the Duchess and the Duke in a performance sure be quite different from what you will see that night at The Earl. If you’re a fan of the duo then you will get a one of a kind chance to see them in a setting like no other. If you haven’t heard them before, this is a great chance to sample their sound in the best way you can sample any band – live. We think you’ll love it so much, you’ll buy tickets for that nights show at the Earl before you leave the store.

3. Decatur CD is a great place to buy new vinyl. Rumor has it Santa prefers vinyl.

4. There will be lots of beer. Lots of free beer. Lots of good free beer. A special thanks to Jordan at Decatur Wine & Spirits for helping us make our selections; we like to think it’s a beer drinkers bonanza. We started local of course, picking up the seasonals and a couple standards from Atlanta Brewing Company and Sweetwater Brewery. We then picked up a couple from our favorite Kalamazoo brewery – that’s Bell’s. We picked up some Lagunitas and some Brooklyn – that should touch both coasts and we got some cans too, Oskar Blues of course. There’s plenty for a beer lover to sample from while the show goes on and until the store closes at 9:00.

5. Decatur CD is a great place to buy books about music. Chicks we dig, dig books…’specially Mrs. Claus.

Okay, that’s all the important stuff.  Five good reasons to visit Decatur CD on 356 W. Ponce de Leon Ave. on December 16 at 5pm.

What comes next is just the typical ramblings which usually tee off these posts.  You can stop reading now.  Really.  Still there?  Oh, okay.

Part of what is so incredible abount this week’s event at Decatur CD is how far we have come in the last 12 months.  This time one year ago we were only posting once a week, and quite frankly nobody was really paying any attention. Even the guys at Decatur CD didn’t know about the blog and thought we were just another regular who at any given moment might ask when the new Dave Matthews Band CD would be out.  (We probably didn’t do much for our indie cred when we special ordered Queen II either.)

Now all kinds of people are following us on Twitter, reading the blog every day, and helping us discover new bands and new books that we can share with you. Now we’re teaming up with an incredible store to host a great band. It’s not quite indie cred, but it’s pretty good for a couple of aging hipsters (okay, that’s just one of us). On the whole we find it all pretty exciting. So, if you’ve got time to get to Decatur CD at 5 on Wednesday, you’ll get to see a great band. If you get there a little later there’s a good chance we will be hanging out, so stop by raise a bottle of good beer and celebrate the holidays with us. (Buy something too). See you there.
