Pub Fiction: Thursday at Thinking Man Tavern

Pub Fiction, sponsored by DeKalb County Public Library, is a book discussion group with plans to visit different pubs and restaurants around Decatur and DeKalb. The inaugural meeting of Pub Fiction will be this Thursday, August 27th, 7PM at Thinking Man Tavern, 537 W. Howard Avenue.

The first book under consideration is Being Dead, by Jim Crace. Also the author of Quarantine and Continent, Crace published Being Dead, in 1999. Winner of the National Book Critics Circle Award and selected as a New York Times Editors’ Choice of the Year Book, Being Dead achieved tremendous acclaim in the United States. As a book about the death of two scientists, it focuses on the natural, organic processes of death. By ignoring the supernatural, Being Dead tells instead the story of life. If the reader can get past the eerie backdrop of the book, he will be in for an unlikely love story. Join us Thursday for a lively discussion of Being Dead.
