Garrison Keillor, Sept. 28 at Agnes Scott

Garrison Keillor is famous in an unusual way – at least as far as the modern world is concerned.  He might be the contemporary incarnation of Mark Twain – a humorist, author, satirist, and through the power of radio, a compelling public speaker.

We certainly don’t know exactly how widely famous Mr. Twain was during his lifetime (we’ve never taken in one of his biographies), but it seems he would have been best Lake Woboegon Daysknown among the intellectually highbrow of his era – despite the fact that his subject matter was the common man.  Keillor fits the same mold.  We don’t really the educational and economic demographics of National Public Radio, but we listen and we expect those other folks who do are a little above average (‘cuz we like to think we are…).  These are the same folks who love Keillor and his stories of a happy little town in Minnesota – Lake Wobegon (woe – be – gone, get it?).  We honestly don’t think he’s in the same class as Twain but that’s for time to tell, not us.

Mr. Keillor and his Prairie Home Companion radio show have a devoted following and doubtless many of them will be at this event.  Join them to hear first hand the thoughts of what may turn out to a modern legend.

The venue is Presser Hall, Gaines Chapel on the Agnes Scott College campus.  This is a free event.  Tickets distributed at the door.  Doors open at 6:00.  Comments at 7:30.  Book signing and reception afterward.
