Decatur’s own Little Shop of Stories‘ book club for dudes, ”Guys Who Read”, is meeting October 15, at 7PM. Guys Who Read is a book (not hair) club for men that meets monthly at Little Shop of Stories then scoots next door to the Brick Store Pub to discuss that month’s read. These boys vary the selection, but as the moderator has told us, there are only two criteria for picking the monthly book: 1) It must be available in paperback, and 2) It can never (ever) have been an Oprah’s book club pick. (Makes sense to us.)
This month they will be discussing Neil Gaiman and Terry Pratchett’s comedy about Armageddon: Good Omens: The Nice and Accurate Prophecies of Agnes Nutter, Witch (1990, Workman). A quasi-parody of the 1976 film The Omen, the book was the 1991 winner of the Locus Award for Best Fantasy Novel.
Read the book, join the guys, and grab a beer…
