Author Appearance: Thomas E. Ricks, Feb. 17 at Decatur Library

Thomas E. Ricks, is a widely recognized expert on American foreign policy, a journalist for The Washington Post, a blogger for Foreign Policy, and author of 2005′s account of the Iraq war, Fiasco: The American Military Adventure in Iraq, 2003 to 2005. He will visit the Decatur Public Library (our favorite place to catch an author) to discuss his new book, The Gamble: General David Petraeus and the American Military Adventure in Iraq, 2006-2008.

We know that Mr. Ricks is a loyal supporter of the United States military and recognizes the real issues facing our fighting force. For example, he recently wrote about the courage of a soldier admitting the despair of contemplated suicide, an issue of paramount concern to the leaders of today’s Army. We’re curious to see, however, if his new book is another contemporary hagiography of General David Petraeus, who led “the surge,” or an examination of where that strategy has really left us as an American military force. This is not one to be missed.

Mr. Ricks will be at Decatur Library Auditorium at 7:15 p.m., Wednesday, February 17.

Here’s what Mr. Ricks had to say to Charlie Rose when Fiasco came out in 2006. It’s an hour long interview, so get ready to engage the issues.
