Author and professor Alan Lightman will be speaking on the “Intersection of Science and Humanties” at Agnes Scott on October 7 at 7:30. Prof. Lightman is well qualified to speak on this topic as he holds a Ph.D. in physics, teaches humanties at M.I.T., and has written five novels and seven works of scientific non-fiction.
We note his appearance because he is the author of one of our favorite books of all time: Einstein’s Dreams. This fiction treats you to the imagined dreams of Albert Einstein as he works his way through the theories of relativity and love – neither of which are terribly easy to grasp. It’s a book than can bend your mind and turn your heart. It did for us.
Einstein’s Dreams is required reading for all the incoming young scholars at Agnes Scott this fall. They are fortunate to start their formal education with such a fantastic work. You might consider continuing your informal education by doing the same. Find a copy at one of our local independent booksellers and join us for a dream in October.
Prof. Lightman will be at Presser Hall, Gaines Chapel on the Agnes Scott College campus. The event is free and no ticket is required.
