We were introduced to The Damnwells not too long after we arrived in Atlanta. It was a fluke really. They were inexplicably in a cut out bin (or the modern version of that) and we didn’t know a darn thing about them. Liked the name though, so we parted with a modest amount of cash and came home with Bastards of the Beat. Liked it. Shared it with our musician friend. If memory serves he called it one of the best records he had heard that year.
We’re on their mailing list now and they are trying to raise some cash to make their next record a reality. They’re using a pretty cool idea called Pledge Music – they raise cash to record and 10% of what they collect goes to charity first. We have to say we like the idea. So part of the hook it that they are giving away a teaser track to get folks on board. It arrived in our inbox this week and we liked it so much that we had to scribble out this post. The song is called “Death Defier.” Try it if you dare and then go give the band a buck for the new project.
