Free Music from Underscore Orkestra

This link came in right about the same time as the new Squirrel Nut Zippers record and it sort of reminds of that band about 15 years ago, when Andrew Bird was still part of the band and they had just starting touring Hot and we saw them at the Black Cat in DC and they had not yet been swept up in that horrible swing band thing (which fortunately flamed out quickly enough), but they’re not quite that.

What they are is Underscore Orkestra. The track is “Balancing Act.” It’s from their 2009 album “No Money, No Honey, All We Got Is Us.” They’re on Bad Panda Records. We guess they call this stuff gypsy jazz now but it sounds more American than Balkan to us. Fans of Atlanta’s own Bonaventure Quartet might like it too. Listen and figure out what it reminds you of…

Oh yeah, that new SNZ record…well, sound out that acronym and you’ll know why we like this track a little better.
