It’s Christmas week and I had every intention of following the lead of the American auto industry and shutting down the A-List for at least one week but then I decided there was some housekeeping to be done. I have a Christmas wish for you, a Christmas wish for me, and at least one show that warrants venturing from hearth and home.
This abbreviated A-List also should leave you well prepared for next week’s year end journal which will include Best Shows, Best Live Covers, Best Songs and Best (?) Disappointments (I guess they all can’t be bests, huh?). It’s already longer than this post.
I’m Just Going out for Eggnog
There really is only one show I really want people to try to see this week and it is at Eddie’s Attic. Atlanta native and modern folkie, Rebecca Loebe, will be opening this Saturday night’s set at 8:00. I only just met Rebecca this fall after she played the Atlanta Room at Smith’s. I discovered her by chance and mentioned the moment here (A-List Archive 9/21). Her long tangled black locks and platform khaki sneakers makes want to describe her as Gene Simmons on granola, but that just leaves the wrong impression.
Rebecca simply blew me away at that first show and I bought her entire discography at the merch table (not hard to do for $20). She will make the year end edition of the A-List based on her clever performance chat, her songwriting on tunes like “Meridian“, and her creativity in covering hip-hop anthems on an acoustic guitar. Bring a candy cane and meet me at Eddie’s to hear this cherub sing.
Wishes for Me
I have two Christmas wishes I’m lookin’ to get filled this week. Anybody feel free to jump in if they can help me out. I want street cred and diplomatic immunity. I figure anybody with (new) White House connections can deliver both in one fell swoop. Anyone?
Wishes for You
Finally, for those of you who really do read this every week I have this: Be happy, be merry, be loved, be in love, be kind, be generous, be good, and if you are on the edge of true meaning, then…just…be.
