Week of White (Tigers & Rabbits)

Ask Me Why

Okay, look, we’ll admit it – we skipped Macca at Piedmont Park. We didn’t even try to get tickets. It wasn’t enochlophobia. It wasn’t the irony of an incredibly consumptive event being held to promote “green.” It wasn’t a lack of interest in or respect for the former Beatle. (“Day Tripper” was the first riff we ever learned on guitar.) Maybe it was just lazy…after all we don’t do much around here. Yeah, that must be it.

Our loyal email A-Listers may have noticed that “Week of” took a week off last week too. You can chalk that one up to lazy too, but in our defense we have been putting some stuff up for all those blogger junkies.

We don’t always get a post up everyday, but do like to think there’s some substance when we do. This past week managed to post two different books reviews (The White Tiger, and Revenge of the Spellmans), a cool performance animation video, another A-List Advance, and we picked up Radiohead’s latest leaked song same day. Not so bad for a crew of shiftless slackers (yeah, that’s our generation too).

If you’ve been aching for a record review, we have at least five of them headed your way this week. Look for our new column – The Short & Skinny. We also will be covering a couple upcoming shows and might even continue our transformation into a Radiohead news blog (or maybe not).

Not the White Album

We’ve got competing interests this week, so we’ll let you make the call. As we’ve added more literary coverage to the site (thanks Yankee Rose) we feel compelled to give you readers a featured event whenever we can.

The Decatur Book Festival is right around the corner, and yes we are excited, but this week we will be headed to EAV Village on Thursday night for book club at Bound to Be Read Books. The club will be discussing The White Tiger at 7:00. Check out our review, cram all that reading in when you would normally be sleeping this week, and join the conversation.

If you’re not obsessive enough to read five novels in one week, then you can visit L5P on Thursday night for White Rabbits at Variety Playhouse. They will start the evening in front of brother/sister act, Fiery Furnaces, but we will be there to see the sextet from New York’s Brooklyn borough.

We weren’t around for the buzz that surrounded the White Rabbits‘ first record, Fort Nightly. (Hey Reverb Nation, we’re not even one year old – let us get email!) Their second record, It’s Frightening, released by TBD Records (which incidentally is the label Radiohead used for In Rainbows) earlier this summer, was released without the same frenzy as that first record despite the quality of the record.

The single and first track on the record, “Percussion Gun” is absolutely infectious and we posted the video for you below. See you somewhere Thursday night…

That’s another ATL A-List and your outside is in when your inside is out.

    Glad someone noticed that!

I like your blog. Keep posting and, if I can put in my two cents, don't worry if you don't get around to doing it as often as you like.
