My first exposure to Besides Daniel was through one of his very well done, very DIY, YouTube videos (like the one below). Something about Danny’s videos set them apart from the umpteen other “boy singing indie cover song into camera” videos floating around out there.
After seeing him live, and listening to The Clay, The Seed, The Stone EP many times over…I became a believer. The Field, from the a fore mentioned EP is a good place to start.
Besides Daniel – The Field
His tunes are folky, hooky, refreshingly optimistic, and (more recently) dark. Not to mention, his drummer and emotive background vocalist Aaron Schorch is impossible to take your eyes off of. There’s no posturing or gimmicks here, Danny wears his heart on his sleeve, without appearing sappy. Fans of Jose Gonzalez, Bowerbirds, Bon Iver, and Iron and Wine will find an instant attraction here.
Here’s Danny with the equally talented Molly Parden covering Jump Little Children’s Mexico.
