Underappreciated? Only around here, it seems.
Having moved beyond the frequent show announcements on the back of wood shipping pallets, Gringo Star is now signed to an ambitious label that might be best known for its roster of quality alums like The Walkmen, Harlem Shakes, and White Rabbits, and getting national attention.
They fuse their janglely, garage pop sound with a fine stage performance. They also seem to be developing a habit of playing to sold out rooms. If memory serves, their last Atlanta show was as part of the line-up for the jam packed, sold out Washed Out show earlier this year at the Earl. Their December New York City show with J. Roddy Walston at the Mercury Lounge is also already sold out. There may be less of a crowd for Saturday night’s show in Little Five Points, but don’t expect the room to be empty.
At $10 it’s a bargain to see this band that may be well on their way. Check out their new LP, Count Yer Lucky Stars, before you go.
