Drummer is a band composed of four (or is it five?) drummers from five (really many more) bands – only one of whom will be playing drums at the EARL on October 16. We put this on our mental calendar when it was announced several weeks ago. We put the release date of this quintet’s record (last Tuesday) there too. Now, we are finally getting around to sharing all that metal warehousing with you (why does it feel like Raiders of the Lost Ark in here?) The name in this band that you may know is Patrick Carney from The Black Keys. When his usual partner in crime, Dan Auerbach, decided to record and tour under his own name this spring, Dan decided he need something to do. He called a few of his pals who interestingly were all, like him, drummers from Ohio. While Dan was away, they decided to form a band (where only one of them plays drums) and make a record - Feel Good Together on Audio Eagle Records. They are now touring in support of that effort and will be in our hometown soon.
For fans of The Black Keys this is much more of a departure from that sound than Mr. Auerbach’s solo effort, Keep It Hid, which was released this spring. I don’t know exactly where to put the sound other than to suggest that it is indie rock that actually rocks (i.e., not Fleet Foxes). Ranging from moments that feel late 80s to those that feel like early 90s to even those that feel like last year, this is a much more diverse record than anything we have heard from Patrick’s efforts with Dan. Quite frankly, we’re rather excited about it and you should be too.
