Ben Trickey, Blaine Rainey + more, Feb. 29 at Star Bar

On Wednesday night the Little Five Points Star Community Bar will feature a line-up that you might hope to find at Eddie’s Attic (though likely never would see there). Five emerging Atlanta songwriters will showcase their wares which range fairly straight forward folk rock to crunk to acoustic art rock. Note the intentional non-use of the “singer-songwriter” label. These gents may sing and write but they are no legion with the saccharin milquetoast sound that has become associated with that name.

These five men have more in common with the long-ago songwriters who innovated modern rock music by merging musical styles underneath compelling storylines, people like Perkins, Dylan, and Parsons, but with a more modern edge.

We have noted our admiration for Ben Trickey’s quiet and poignant melodies here before but the equally compelling Blaine Rainey will be there as well. We have to admit we might be most excited to hear Jason Floyd Thatcher, whose decidedly rock driven structures we discovered only when we sat down to write this post. For $5 at the door, this is a great way to spend your Wednesday evening.

Michael Bradley, Joel Burkhart will be there too.
