Listen Up: Remix Edition

Remixes can be a strange thing. Personally I find them a bit polarizing. Which is to say, I either love the treatment of the original track or hate it. Sometimes though, when I’m not familiar with the song stems the remixer used, then the remix is the only mix I know. In that kind of isolation, I guess a remix can stand as its own song.

About 15 seconds in, this one has a little bass riff that I would swear is the hook to Queen’s Radio Ga Ga (the original GaGa by the way, sorry Lady). Don’t know anything about The Drums so this fits that latter category above.
The Drums – Forever And Ever Amen (Saint Etienne Remix)

This one is more of the typical club remixes with the big beats and all that. Strangely, I could go either way with it. Maybe everything I said in the opening paragraph is wrong.
Short Circuit – Let Go (NightWaves Remix)

I like Caribou. I like this remix too. Maybe I was right about what I wrote above.
Caribou – Sun (Altrice’s Only What You Gave Me Remix)

Here’s another band that I really like and whose next record can’t get here soon enough for me – Ra Ra Riot. I really like what Absofacto did with the stems on this one. An outstanding treatment. I was completely correct about what I said in the first paragraph. Completely.

That remix of Caribou’s Sun is awesome, thank you. :)

Here’s a review of Caribou’s May 27 show in Seattle:
