A Couple Words About SUbrosa Union

I don’t get particularly excited when a gang of white dudes from Texas cite Bob Marley as an influence. (I used to read Christian Lander’s blog too). Somehow, I managed to overlook the cheesy faux-art tribute photos, the inane intentional over-capitalization in the band’s name, and actually listened to the track anyway.

I must admit I was surprised. It was catchy, sort of post-rock (if not post pop rock – whatever that might be), and nearly addictive. Some of the hype was almost right. Despite the obvious hurdles, the band impressed when the music hit the air. I have always been a sucker for bands who could deliver the hook and the groove and SUbrosa Union (silly spelling and all) seem to be one of them. This band could end up hearing itself on the radio if it can manage to keep from getting too cute. I haven’t heard more than this track, but thought you might like to hear it too.
